Microsoft’s Windows 11 24H2 update has been plagued with glitches since its rollout, and the issues show no sign of slowing. Network problems, blue screen errors, and even rescue patches that fail to install have left many users frustrated, forcing Microsoft to block the update on certain devices due to stability concerns.
Adding to these complications, a new issue has surfaced that causes Office applications like Word and Excel to crash when used in tandem with specific antivirus software. The culprit appears to be CrowdStrike’s Falcon sensor antivirus, particularly when the “Enhanced Exploitation Visibility Prevention Policy” setting is activated. This advanced cybersecurity feature, intended to offer added protection, is ironically leading to crashes and unresponsiveness in Office apps after users install the Windows 11 24H2 update.
Currently, it’s unclear if other antivirus solutions could also be impacted, but the issue seems isolated to CrowdStrike’s Falcon software for now. Microsoft has promptly added these affected systems to its block list, preventing them from receiving the 24H2 update. Additionally, the company has announced a partnership with CrowdStrike to investigate and remedy the problem.
The need for collaboration with other companies is not new in Microsoft’s handling of the 24H2 update. Recently, a similar effort was necessary with SSD manufacturers to resolve hardware crashes on affected devices. While this latest issue mainly impacts managed IT setups, individual users facing other persistent issues in the 24H2 update may benefit from downgrading to an earlier Windows 11 version until Microsoft rolls out broader fixes.
