Salesforce introduced Agentforce 2dx on Wednesday, marking the third version of its agentic AI platform aimed at simplifying the development, testing, and deployment of AI agents. These agents are designed to automate critical business processes across multiple departments, including sales, service, marketing, finance, HR, and operations. The latest release builds on the previous version launched in December, adding significant updates that make it even more accessible for developers to integrate AI into enterprise workflows.
The key enhancements in Agentforce 2dx are focused on two major areas: orchestrating agents and building agents. For developers, the update introduces a range of new features, including an API, DX Inspector, and Interaction Explorer, along with support for Visual Studio Code (VS Code). These improvements aim to make it easier for enterprises to create and manage AI agents that can seamlessly integrate with their existing systems and processes. The focus is on making AI more actionable within Salesforce, whether it’s for automating repetitive tasks or enhancing customer interactions.
One of the standout features in Agentforce 2dx is the new API, which allows developers to embed the platform into backend processes, other systems, and applications. This gives enterprises the flexibility to trigger AI agents directly via a REST API, enabling them to start, end, or continue a session based on specific business triggers. The API can also “ground” the agent with data, making the AI more context-aware and effective at automating business decisions. The inclusion of Invocable Actions further enhances the platform’s capabilities by enabling enterprises to integrate Agentforce within Salesforce business logic, such as adding AI steps into Salesforce Flow and triggering these actions programmatically within Apex.
Additionally, Salesforce has expanded Agentforce’s capabilities to improve the customer experience through Lightning web components. These components allow enterprises to embed dynamic, interactive UI elements directly within the agent’s responses. By using custom HTML and JavaScript, businesses can enhance the way AI agents interact with users, offering richer and more personalized engagement. Use cases for these enhancements include automating service case resolutions, lead qualification, and order processing, where AI agents can proactively assist with tasks like handling customer queries or auto-populating CRM records. With Agentforce 2dx, Salesforce continues to empower businesses to leverage AI for more intelligent, scalable, and efficient operations.
