In the rapidly evolving landscape of food delivery and online marketing, a startup named Owner is stepping up to assist small, independent restaurants in not just surviving but thriving in the digital realm.

Digital ordering and online marketing have become indispensable for a restaurant’s survival, and while larger chain establishments find it relatively easy to adapt, independent restaurants often face challenges in navigating various digital tools. Adam Guild, the CEO of Owner, emphasizes that mom-and-pop restaurants may end up investing significant time and money in delivery services, web design, and marketing tools without experiencing a commensurate return on investment.

Initially conceived to develop online tools for his mother’s dog grooming business, Guild pivoted the company to cater to the restaurant industry. Owner was initially focused on driving dine-in business for its customers until the COVID-19 pandemic forced a shift to online ordering and delivery in early 2020.

Owner distinguishes itself from major delivery apps by offering cost-effective solutions. With a flat monthly fee and a per-delivery charge, typically around $4 paid by the restaurant and an additional $3 paid by the customer, the platform provides an affordable alternative to larger delivery services like DoorDash and Uber Eats.

The comprehensive package from Owner includes services such as a digital loyalty program, user-friendly website building tools, online marketing support, and custom-branded mobile apps. The platform aims to streamline operations for busy restaurant owners, offering a suite of features that enhance the online presence and customer engagement of these local establishments.

Timirie Shibley, co-owner of the Doo-Dah Diner in Wichita, Kansas, praises Owner for solving multiple challenges for her restaurant, including reliable delivery, a revamped website attracting new customers and staff, and a smartphone app catering to repeat customers.

Owner, which recently secured $33 million in a Series B funding round, plans to further invest in simplifying online operations for restaurant owners. The company’s focus on introducing AI features, such as automatic drafting of marketing emails, aims to save time and streamline processes for restaurant owners who prioritize running their businesses over dealing with intricate digital tasks.

With a commitment to making technology accessible to family-run restaurants, Owner seeks to level the playing field, ensuring that smaller establishments can harness the same technological capabilities as larger chains, ultimately contributing to vibrant and thriving local communities.
