Skimming off wireless electromagnetic signals for surveillance isn’t a new idea. It’s a vulnerability referred to as TEMPEST (Transient ElectroMagnetic Pulse Emanation STandard, a very awkward backronym) with roots in espionage going all the way back to World War II.
