Tech enthusiasts following recent developments will know that Intel’s 13th- and 14th-generation desktop CPUs have faced significant stability problems. In a positive turn, the first BIOS updates aimed at resolving these issues are now being rolled out by Asus and MSI.
These updates incorporate a microcode patch designed to correct voltage errors in the Raptor Lake processors. The fix is delivered through motherboard UEFI-BIOS updates. MSI has started deploying the patch for its premium Z790 motherboards across the MAG, MEG, and MPG series, with additional models from the 700-series and 600-series expected to receive updates by late August.
Asus is also providing updates through its usual method, sharing beta BIOS files via Google Drive links on its official ROG forums. Updates are currently available for Z790 boards in the Strix and Maximus ranges, and specific models like the Z790-AYW OC WIFI and ProArt Z790-Creator WiFi. Final versions will likely be made available as standard downloads following the beta testing phase.
These BIOS updates represent Intel’s official solution to the problem and should not be confused with earlier, temporary measures taken by manufacturers. While the microcode adjustment is designed to prevent further issues, it may not address any existing damage. Consequently, other motherboard makers are likely hurrying to apply the fix to alleviate customer problems and reduce support and return costs.
For those already experiencing CPU issues, Intel’s expanded warranties now cover all affected Raptor Lake processors, providing some relief for users.
