Windows 11 24H2 Update Causes Shutdown Glitches on Dell PCs
Users of Dell PCs and laptops are encountering significant problems with the Windows 11 24H2 update, which is preventing devices from shutting down or entering hibernation. The culprit has been identified as a compatibility issue with the Dell Encryption App (version 11.9), according to a support document from Dell.
Unlike previous issues with the 24H2 update, such as USB printer compatibility or Ubisoft game glitches, Microsoft has not paused the rollout for Dell machines. This leaves users at risk of encountering shutdown errors if they proceed with the update.
Fortunately, Dell has rolled out a fix in the form of version 11.10 of the Dell Encryption App. The updated software is automatically delivered to impacted systems, requiring no manual action from users. Those who haven’t yet updated to 24H2 are advised to ensure they have the latest version of the Dell software before proceeding.
While this issue seems confined to Dell devices, some Asus systems have reported sound problems after upgrading to 24H2. Users experiencing missing Dolby Digital functionality will need to manually download the appropriate drivers from Asus’s official website, as detailed in the company’s FAQ.
Both cases highlight the ongoing challenges with compatibility in Windows 11’s major updates.
