In an exciting development for gaming laptops, AMD has rolled out AMD Fluid Motion Frames 2 (AFMF2), an AI-driven feature that can boost frame rates by up to 40% on AMD Ryzen AI 300 laptops. This powerful tool, offered as a technical preview, will soon become a staple in AMD’s Adrenalin Edition software. As demonstrated in Cyberpunk: 2077, AFMF2 is set to transform gameplay by increasing frame rates from 56 FPS to approximately 100 FPS under specific settings. This AI-powered frame generation tool produces additional frames between those generated by the GPU, creating smoother transitions and a more fluid gaming experience.
AFMF2’s integration into Adrenalin brings it alongside other tools such as Radeon Super Resolution, which upscales frames to deliver enhanced visuals. Together, they offer gamers the ability to push graphics quality while retaining smooth performance. AMD recommends starting with a setup that achieves around 50 FPS and allowing AFMF2 to increase frame rates further, though results may vary by system and title. The technology’s impact is broadened by HYPR-RX profiles, enabling users to tailor AFMF2 performance to specific games and system capabilities for an optimized experience.
New with AFMF2 is the introduction of Variable Graphics Memory (VGM), allowing the system to reallocate significant amounts of system memory as VRAM. With VGM, systems boasting 32GB of RAM can convert up to 8GB for VRAM on a Radeon 890M GPU, allowing for an impressive uplift in graphics performance. Accessible through Adrenalin’s Tuning tab, VGM can be set to Low, Medium, or High, with the higher settings maximizing available memory for GPU usage. This reallocation, especially on systems with abundant RAM, enables better performance for graphics-intensive games and high resolutions.
While Nvidia’s DLSS 3 offers a similar AI-powered frame-generation approach, AMD’s AFMF2 brings this benefit to integrated graphics, making it more accessible for laptops without dedicated GPUs. With AMD’s and Nvidia’s AI-focused advancements in GPU technology, gamers are seeing a transformative shift in how AI enhances gameplay, giving users more reasons to invest in the latest CPU and GPU technology to keep pace with AI-powered gaming demands.
