Hitachi Group is set to deploy Microsoft’s advanced artificial intelligence services to 270,000 of its employees over the next three years, aiming to significantly boost operational efficiency and productivity. This ambitious initiative will integrate the Microsoft cloud, including Azure OpenAI Service, Dynamics 365, Copilot for Microsoft 365, and GitHub Copilot, into Hitachi’s Lumada solutions. Lumada focuses on transforming customer data into actionable insights, enhancing decision-making processes and operational outcomes.
“We are entering a new era of AI with the promise to deliver transformative business outcomes across every role and industry,” said Satya Nadella, chairman and CEO of Microsoft. “Our expanded partnership with Hitachi will bring together the power of the Microsoft Cloud – including Microsoft Copilot – with Hitachi’s industry expertise to improve the productivity of 270,000 Hitachi employees and help address customers’ biggest challenges, including sustainability.”
Hitachi is already seeing tangible benefits from utilizing Microsoft’s generative AI technologies. For instance, the company’s JP1 Cloud Services, a comprehensive operations management software used by around 20,000 customers, has reported a two-thirds reduction in response times for addressing system failures. This efficiency gain underscores the potential of AI to streamline complex operations and enhance customer satisfaction.
In the transportation sector, Hitachi Rail is harnessing the power of generative AI to enhance predictive maintenance capabilities. By employing a cloud-based platform on Azure, Hitachi Rail can visualize and analyze data more effectively, enabling proactive monitoring of rail infrastructure. This AI-driven approach helps prevent equipment breakdowns and improves overall service quality, ensuring safer and more reliable rail operations.
Looking to the future, Hitachi plans to expand its use of Microsoft 365 and GitHub Copilot within its Generative AI Center. The goal is to drive greater efficiency and innovation in application development. Moreover, Azure OpenAI Service will be pivotal in enhancing customer service and asset management, aiming to reduce downtime and boost profitability. Hitachi also has a forward-thinking plan to train over 50,000 employees in generative AI technologies, empowering them to utilize GitHub Copilot and Azure OpenAI Service in their daily workflows.
Through this extensive integration of Microsoft’s generative AI solutions, Hitachi is not only poised to elevate its own operational capabilities but also to offer advanced AI-driven services to its global clientele, addressing critical challenges across various industries.
