Apple officially released iOS 18 in September, following its exciting “Glowtime” event, where the company showcased the new iPhone 16 series and the Apple Watch Series 10, among other innovations. The latest update has introduced several enhancements to the iPhone, particularly enhancing the Notes app’s organizational capabilities with a feature for collapsible sections.
Although users have had the ability to use tags to manage their notes, this approach organizes entire notes rather than the specific content contained within them. The new collapsible sections allow users to keep their notes well-structured and manageable, significantly improving the ease of finding information when needed.
If you’ve been experimenting with the iOS 18 beta, here’s a step-by-step guide to creating collapsible sections in the Notes app:
- Launch the Notes app on your iPhone.
- Tap the new note button—a square icon with a pen—located in the bottom right corner of your screen.
- Enter a title for your note, such as “Weeks of the Month.”
- Tap the “Aa” icon in the toolbar at the top of your keyboard; if you don’t see it, tap the plus (+) sign in the top right corner to reveal the toolbar.
- Select either “Heading” or “Subheading” to define your sections, which could represent the days of the week.
- Populate the sections with your relevant information.
- To enable collapsing, tap the space directly in front of your headings or subheadings; a down arrow will appear to their left.
- Click on the arrow to collapse all content beneath that heading or subheading.
Keep in mind that headings do not collapse into each other, nor do subheadings and titles. However, a subheading under a heading can collapse, and if there are multiple titles within a single note, everything can collapse beneath each title.
With this new feature, organizing your Notes app can become a breeze. Personally, I find it incredibly useful for keeping track of my weekly tasks and meetings, as it allows me to easily reference what I accomplished earlier in the week or what is on my agenda for the days ahead.
