Logitech Abandons ‘Forever Mouse’ Idea: A Bold Move That Missed the Mark

Logitech’s “forever mouse,” a concept that had many buzzing, will not be making it to store shelves. The idea, which proposed a subscription model for perpetual updates and features, was described as a glimpse into potential future directions rather than a planned product.

The concept was introduced by Logitech’s new CEO, Hanneke Faber, who likened it to a luxury item where ongoing payments would ensure continued access to updates. This notion quickly drew criticism, as it clashed with the traditional approach of buying and owning hardware indefinitely.

Following the backlash, Logitech issued a statement clarifying that there are no current plans to launch a subscription-based mouse. The company reassured customers that it will continue to sell its existing lineup of mice, which are purchased with a one-time payment. The “forever mouse” was intended to spark discussion on future sustainability in consumer electronics, not to replace Logitech’s current product offerings.
