Google has faced significant challenges this year, with a recent glitch in Google Chrome causing over 15 million passwords to vanish. This incident forced the tech company to issue a public apology.
The bug in Chrome’s password manager prevented users from accessing saved passwords and saving new ones between July 24 and 25. Google identified the issue as specific to the M127 version of Chrome on Windows, impacting roughly a quarter of all Chrome users, including the 15 million who rely on the password manager.
Password Glitch Resolved: Google initially offered a temporary fix that required an additional command upon Chrome startup. Now, the issue has been completely resolved, restoring full access to saved passwords.
While Chrome’s password manager is known for its security, this glitch highlights the potential risks of depending on a single password manager. To avoid similar issues, consider using a backup password manager.
Additional Issues at Google: According to Forbes, the password manager glitch was not an isolated incident. Google also encountered problems with email verification for new Google Workspace accounts, which could have allowed attackers to bypass the verification process and gain unauthorized access.
