Recording your thoughts or an important meeting is a breeze with Windows 11’s built-in Audio Recorder tool. This easy-to-use program allows you to save your audio files in multiple formats and add markers to navigate through your recordings without needing any external software. Here’s a guide to using Microsoft’s Audio Recorder.
To begin, search for “Audio Recorder” in the Windows search bar and open the application. Choose your microphone by selecting it from the options at the bottom left corner of the app.
The record button is prominently placed at the bottom center. Once you hit record, your audio files will be listed in the top left corner, and a waveform diagram will appear on the right to visualize the recording.
You have the option to save your recordings in different formats, including m4a, mp3, wma, flac, and wav. To change the format, click the three dots at the top right and select Recording Format. You can also adjust the audio quality by choosing from best, high, or medium settings.
The app offers basic functions such as play, stop, and record, and includes an import option and a share button for easy distribution of your recordings.
Moreover, you can adjust playback speed from 0.25x to 4x and insert markers within the audio file to quickly jump to specific sections.
Keep in mind that the tool only supports microphone input for recording; it doesn’t allow you to capture audio directly from your computer’s sound output.
