In a recent announcement on Discord, David Holz, CEO of Midjourney, revealed that the AI image generation platform will soon be accessible for free to everyone. Midjourney, which began as a Discord bot in 2022, expanded into a web-based tool in 2023, enabling users to craft AI-generated images through detailed prompts. Initially, only users who had created over 10,000 images on Discord could access the web tool.
The new update will allow anyone to use Midjourney by signing in with either a Discord or Google account. Free users can generate up to 25 images before needing to upgrade to a paid plan. Midjourney provides four subscription options, starting from $10 per month for basic access to $120 per month for the most comprehensive features, including increased GPU time and a stealth mode for private image generation. All subscriptions include the ability to earn additional GPU time by rating images and offer a 20% discount when billed annually.
