MSI’s Retro Cyclone RTX 5060 Cards Make a Comeback with Clean, Compact Design
MSI’s retro-inspired Cyclone line of RTX GPUs is officially returning, following a brief showcase at Computex. Leading the charge is the RTX 5060 series, featuring the Cyclone’s trademark minimalist approach—no oversized coolers, no gaudy RGB lighting, and notably, no LCD screen like the one previewed at the event.
MSI dubs the RTX 5060 8GB Cyclone OC “legacy reborn for a new era,” signaling a return to the basics of GPU design with an emphasis on simplicity and functionality. The card’s cooling solution is an open-air style with a single fan cooling a robust heatsink outfitted with two heat pipes arranged in a circular layout. Measuring just 161mm in length and 42mm in width, it fits in a standard dual-slot configuration—making it an excellent option for smaller builds or those who prefer streamlined components. The rear panel offers three DisplayPort 2.1b outputs plus one HDMI 2.1b port, supporting the latest display standards.
The open heatsink design requires thoughtful case airflow management to maximize cooling efficiency, and careful cable routing will help prevent airflow blockages. Still, the aesthetic is clean and functional, a nice departure from the oversized, heavily RGB-lit GPU trend.
Besides the overclocked RTX 5060, MSI’s global site also lists a base model and two versions of the RTX 5060 Ti—standard and overclocked. Notably, the 16GB version of the Ti card hasn’t yet appeared.
MSI hasn’t shared pricing or availability yet, and these Cyclone models haven’t hit US retailer shelves or MSI’s US website. The return of the Cyclone line may appeal to users looking for straightforward, no-nonsense GPUs with a nostalgic design vibe.
