I’ve been underwhelmed by this year’s Prime Day Chromebook deals! The discounts haven’t been as impressive as I had hoped. However, the Prime Day discount on the Asus Chromebook CX1 on Amazon is the best deal I’ve found and probably what most people are looking for.
The Asus Chromebook CX1 is currently $180 on Amazon, a 28% discount. Even at its regular price of $250, it’s a great deal—at this discounted price, it’s outstanding.
Here’s why I recommend it. First, it comes with 8GB of RAM. While this might seem trivial, memory is crucial in Chromebooks, especially if you frequently have a dozen or more tabs open. The 1080p screen isn’t an absolute necessity but it’s close, and the 15.6-inch size provides a comfortable viewing experience without needing an external monitor.
The processor, an Intel Celeron N4500, is adequate, and the storage capacity is not a concern. Chromebooks typically rely on cloud storage, so 64GB is more than sufficient.
However, before jumping on this deal, take a screenshot of the listing. Interestingly, the Amazon description includes all the specifications mentioned, but the listing itself offers a choice of three different models, which change when you click on a specific model. (This is a frustrating quirk of Amazon’s listings.)
The deal I’m highlighting appears when you select the “Pentium N6000” option. While the processor isn’t the primary concern, the Pentium N6000 is slightly better: 3.3GHz turbo speed compared to the 2.8GHz speed of the Celeron N4500. Additionally, the N6000 can process four instruction threads versus the two threads the N4500 can handle. Ensure you keep a record of the important specs—like the screen and memory—in case there’s an issue.
You should always be cautious about retailers offloading older hardware, but this seems like a solid deal on a quality Chromebook. There aren’t many deals like this, and I’ve checked listings on Amazon, Best Buy, and other retailers for the best Chromebook deals for Prime Day. Don’t forget, Prime Day ends today, July 17! Don’t miss out on this deal.
