RX 9070 XT Leak Reveals Specs, But AMD’s Pricing Strategy Remains Unclear
AMD’s upcoming RX 9000 series GPUs continue to spark interest, but information has been scarce. Despite confirming that the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT will launch next month, AMD barely mentioned the cards during its CES 2025 keynote, leaving many questions unanswered. However, a new leak may finally shed light on the 9070 XT’s specifications and what to expect in terms of performance.
The leak, originating from HKEPC Media on Twitter (un-formerly X), includes a GPU-Z screenshot showing the key specifications of the RX 9070 XT. While it’s always possible for such leaks to be manipulated, HKEPC has been a credible source in the past, and VideoCardz.com has also noted the presence of benchmark results.
According to the leaked details, the RX 9070 XT features:
- Navi 48 RDNA 4 GPU
- 16GB GDDR6 VRAM
- 256-bit memory bus
- 644.6 GB/s memory bandwidth
- 2.57GHz base clock, 3.1GHz boost clock
While exact performance figures are still unknown, the new X0X0 naming scheme suggests that AMD intends to compete directly with Nvidia’s RTX 5070 Ti ($750), while the RX 9070 would go up against the RTX 5070 ($550). With 16GB of VRAM, the RX 9070 XT matches the RTX 5070 Ti, putting it in a similar category to AMD’s previous RX 7800 XT, which launched at $500.
Interestingly, AMD appears to be stepping back from the ultra-premium GPU segment, allowing Nvidia to dominate the $1,000+ market. Given Nvidia’s overwhelming market share and profitability, particularly due to its AI-focused GPUs, this may be a calculated move by AMD to target the more accessible mid-to-high-end GPU market.
The biggest remaining question is whether AMD can price the RX 9070 XT competitively enough to provide a better value proposition than the RTX 5070 Ti. Similarly, the RX 9070’s pricing versus the $550 RTX 5070 will be key. Consumers will ultimately decide based on both price and performance, making AMD’s official launch details crucial for determining how well these GPUs can challenge Nvidia’s latest offerings.
