Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra’s AI Features: An Afterthought in User Experience

While the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra boasts impressive hardware and incremental improvements, its generative AI features feel like an add-on rather than a game-changer. The device introduces AI functionalities, such as web page summarization, text message rewriting, and real-time phone call translation. However, the implementation falls short as these features are tied to Samsung’s native apps, making them less user-friendly and limiting their overall utility.

The web page summarization, for instance, only works with Samsung’s stock browser, leading to inconveniences for users who prefer other browsers. Chat Assist, designed to rewrite text messages, struggles to provide a seamless experience, prompting users to revert to alternative keyboards like Google’s Gboard. The AI features in Samsung’s Notes app, though innovative, may not appeal to users who prefer third-party note-taking applications.

In the realm of photo editing, the AI-driven removal of unwanted objects and repositioning of elements in existing photos can yield mixed results. While some features, like shadow and reflection removal, impress when discovered, their tucked-away nature limits their accessibility for users.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra’s AI features, while offering novelty, seem disconnected and less integrated into the user experience. Samsung’s approach leaves users questioning the practicality and necessity of these features, emphasizing that, for now, traditional smartphone performance remains more critical than experimental AI functionalities.

    Missed Opportunities and Unmet Expectations

Despite the potential offered by generative AI, Samsung misses the mark by not integrating these features more seamlessly into daily tasks. Tying AI capabilities to specific native apps restricts user choice and limits the widespread adoption of these features. To truly enhance user experience, Samsung may need to rethink its strategy and explore ways to make AI an integral and intuitive part of the smartphone interface.

As users increasingly prioritize cohesive and user-friendly AI integration, Samsung’s current approach may leave them wanting more from future flagship models. The Galaxy S24 Ultra, with its AI features feeling like an afterthought, raises questions about Samsung’s commitment to delivering a truly intelligent and cohesive device.
