Nvidia Issues Critical Security Warning: GeForce GPU Owners Must Update Now
Nvidia, a leading graphics card manufacturer, is currently alerting users of GeForce GPUs to significant security vulnerabilities that have been identified in its display drivers and other software components. The company’s latest security bulletin outlines eight vulnerabilities, each rated as “High” severity, indicating that immediate action is necessary for those using GeForce GPUs.
Understanding the Security Threats
The vulnerabilities in question pose a serious risk, as they could allow attackers to gain complete access to users’ systems. This access would enable malicious actors to execute harmful code and potentially access and steal personal information. Affected software includes Nvidia’s GeForce offerings as well as the RTX, Quadro, NVS, and Tesla lines, impacting users on both Windows and Linux operating systems.
While Nvidia has not confirmed if these vulnerabilities have been actively exploited, the fact that all GeForce graphics cards are at risk suggests a widespread concern for users.
Immediate Steps for Mitigation
To combat these security issues, Nvidia recommends that all users update to the following driver versions:
- Windows users should install version 566.03
- Linux users should upgrade to 565.57.01, 550.127.05, or 535.216.01
Some distributors may also offer the necessary security updates through versions 565.92, 561.03, 556.35, and 553.05. For users with Nvidia RTX, Quadro, and NVS graphics cards, versions 566.03, 553.24, and 538.95 address the vulnerabilities.
Users can find the appropriate updates by using Nvidia’s Manual Driver Search tool or by accessing the updates through the Nvidia App or GeForce Experience app.
To ensure the integrity of your system and personal data, it is crucial to perform these updates without delay.
