Starlink is quietly rolling out a new family plan, available exclusively by invitation to US residential customers, as detailed in a recent support page update. The plan, which allows users to add another subscription, has yet to officially announce its discount rate. However, a review of the order page’s code indicates that the plan may be priced at $100.
According to the support page, all subscriptions will be billed together on the same day each month. This new offering follows Starlink’s recent price reduction for its satellite dish, which saw a drop from $499 to $299 in states with significant network coverage.
The introduction of family plans is a relatively novel concept for internet services, more commonly seen with mobile and streaming services. Starlink’s new plan is similar to Netflix’s family plan model, allowing users to add additional members at a discounted rate. This change is expected to be welcomed by users with multiple dishes, such as those on farms, who could benefit from the savings.
To qualify for the discounted family plan, users must maintain an active full-price service plan; discontinuing the full-price plan will immediately remove the family plan discount. Details on how Starlink will select invitees for this plan and when invitations will be distributed remain unclear.
