As iOS 18 prepares for its fall debut, Apple continues to enhance iPhone capabilities with features like customizable home and lock screens. Following the rollout of iOS 17 in 2023, Apple fortified its commitment to user safety with the expansion of the Sensitive Content Warnings feature. Initially targeting unsolicited nude photos, this feature now employs on-device machine learning to identify and block explicit stickers and Contact Posters.
Sensitive Content Warnings are disabled by default but can be activated easily:
- Go to Settings on your iPhone.
- Select Privacy & Security.
- Tap on Sensitive Content Warning.
- Flip the switch next to Sensitive Content Warning to enable.
Once enabled, potentially sensitive content will be obscured with a message indicating its nature. This safeguard applies across Messages, AirDrop, Contact Posters, and FaceTime video messages. Users can further tailor these protections by selecting specific apps and services within the Sensitive Content Warning settings.
If you encounter sensitive content and need guidance, tapping the triangle icon in the top-right corner of the blurred image provides access to safety resources. These resources include tips on handling harassment and considerations before interacting with blurred images or sharing sensitive content. Support materials cater to both adults and younger users, ensuring comprehensive assistance.
For those who choose to view potentially sensitive content, tapping “Show” in the bottom-right corner of the blurred image grants access, maintaining user control over their digital interactions.
