Windows 10 and Windows 11 come equipped with WinGet, a command line tool that lets you manage software and updates efficiently. This tool is highly versatile, allowing you to update all installed programs in one go, which helps keep your system’s software up to date.
If you’re not comfortable with command line tools or simply prefer a graphical interface, UniGetUI (formerly known as WinGetUI) is an excellent alternative. UniGetUI provides an easy-to-use graphical user interface for all the functionalities of WinGet and other Windows package managers.
After you download, install, and launch UniGetUI, you’ll find options for Discover Packages, Software Updates, and Installed Packages in the left sidebar. Here’s a guide on how to use these sections effectively:
Discover Packages with UniGetUI
In the Discover Packages section, use the main search bar or the smaller one at the top right to search for programs to install. To install a program, right-click and select Install. Ensure you check the Source column for items labeled WinGet: winget. Programs labeled WinGet: msstore and Chocolatey are also acceptable, but they come from the Microsoft Store and the Chocolatey package manager, respectively.
To install multiple programs simultaneously, select the checkboxes next to each program and click the Install selected packages button on the top toolbar. The installation process will run without the usual confirmations.
Software Updates with UniGetUI
The Software Updates section lists all installed programs with available updates. This is where you can update all your software quickly. By default, all items are selected, and it’s generally advisable to update everything unless you have a specific reason not to, such as a critical bug in a particular update.
Installed Packages in UniGetUI
The Installed Packages section displays almost all software installed on your system, including pre-installed applications. UniGetUI provides various options for uninstalling and reinstalling software, including the ability to remove the Microsoft Edge browser. These options are available in the context menu when you right-click on an item.
