Uno Platform Studio Introduces Hot Design for Enhanced Cross-Platform .NET Development
The Uno Platform has announced the launch of Uno Platform Studio, a comprehensive toolkit designed to improve productivity in cross-platform .NET application development. Among its features is Hot Design, a visual designer that enables developers to seamlessly transform a running application into a design, regardless of their choice of IDE or operating system. Unveiled on November 14, this new suite also includes powerful tools like Hot Reload, which dynamically applies code changes, and a Figma plugin for smooth design-to-code workflows. While Hot Reload and the Figma plugin are already available, Hot Design is set to launch in the first half of 2025, with early access available through a waitlist.
One of the most anticipated features, Hot Design, creates a synchronized design-to-code experience. Changes made in the visual designer are instantly reflected in the corresponding XAML code, and vice versa. This real-time feedback loop enables developers to maintain a consistent user interface throughout the development process. As an IDE-agnostic tool, Hot Design integrates with popular environments like Visual Studio, Visual Studio Code, and JetBrains Rider, across operating systems including Windows, macOS, and Linux. This capability ensures developers can create applications with visually rich user interfaces for a wide range of platforms supported by .NET, from mobile devices on iOS and Android to embedded systems, desktops, and even web applications through WebAssembly.
Hot Design also supports the integration of both user-created and third-party UI components, catering to developers who rely on complex design systems and advanced controls. This flexibility is essential for creating custom and feature-rich applications. Uno Platform emphasizes that Hot Design eliminates the need for mock data often required by traditional designers. Developers can work with real data during the design process, streamlining workflows and reducing the back-and-forth between design and development teams.
By introducing Uno Platform Studio and its innovative features like Hot Design and Hot Reload, Uno Platform aims to bridge the gap between design and development in cross-platform .NET projects. These tools empower developers to create applications more efficiently while maintaining high design fidelity. The platform’s commitment to enhancing the development lifecycle makes it a compelling choice for modern app development across diverse platforms.
