In a bid to redefine affordability without sacrificing performance, Motorola has announced significant price reductions and spec enhancements for its popular Moto G smartphone lineup. Leading the charge is the Moto G 5G, which enters the scene at an enticing starting price of $200, boasting a higher-refresh-rate display compared to its predecessor. Joining the fray is the refreshed Moto G Power 5G, maintaining last year’s price tag of $300 while receiving its own set of upgrades.
These releases follow closely on the heels of last month’s introduction of the Moto G Play for 2024, which saw a notable price drop from $170 in 2023 to a more budget-friendly $150 for the current model.
The Moto G 5G debuts with a fresh 6.6-inch display featuring an impressive 120Hz refresh rate, accompanied by Dolby Atmos audio support for an immersive multimedia experience. Equipped with a robust 50-megapixel main camera and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera, it harnesses the power of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 chip for seamless performance. While not the latest offering from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 promises optimized performance tailored for photography and display capabilities. However, the inclusion of a 2-megapixel macro camera alongside the primary lens may raise questions about its practical utility. Additionally, the device packs 128GB of storage, a hefty 5,000-mAh battery, and supports 18-watt fast charging.
Meanwhile, the Moto G Power 5G boasts a spacious 6.7-inch display with a matching 120Hz refresh rate, along with 128GB of storage, Dolby Atmos audio, and a generous 5,000-mAh battery. Its camera setup receives an upgrade, featuring a 50-megapixel main camera paired with an 8-megapixel ultrawide lens for enhanced photography versatility. Powered by the Mediatek Dimensity 7020 processor, it introduces 15-watt wireless charging, a novel feature for phones in this price segment.
Both devices introduce a “RAM boost” feature, allowing users to expand onboard memory using built-in storage. While Motorola’s software update policy remains unchanged, offering one year of software updates and three years of security updates, the inclusion of NFC for contactless payments marks a significant addition for phones priced at $200.
The Moto G 5G is slated to launch on T-Mobile and Metro by T-Mobile on March 21, with an unlocked variant set to follow on May 2. Available in an attractive sage green color, the Moto G Power 5G will make its debut on Cricket on March 22, followed by additional carriers, and an unlocked model hitting the market on March 29.
