ASP.NET Core 6 introduces a more simplified hosting model that streamlines the process of getting an application up and running. This new model reduces the amount of boilerplate code, making it easier for developers to start building applications quickly without worrying about complex setup or configuration. In this article, we’ll explore how to work with the minimal hosting model in ASP.NET Core 6, with clear code examples to guide you along the way.

Before diving into the examples, make sure you have Visual Studio 2022 installed on your system. The IDE provides all the necessary tools to create and manage ASP.NET Core 6 projects efficiently. If you don’t have Visual Studio 2022 installed yet, you can download it from the official Microsoft website to get started.

To begin, let’s create an ASP.NET Core Web API project in Visual Studio 2022. The process is straightforward and involves a few simple steps. First, launch Visual Studio 2022 and select the “Create new project” option. From the list of available templates, choose “ASP.NET Core Web API” and click Next. Then, specify a name and location for your project in the configuration window. You can optionally choose to place the solution and project in the same directory, depending on your preferences. Afterward, in the “Additional Information” window, make sure to select .NET 6.0 as the target framework, and leave the default settings for Authentication Type and other checkboxes.

Once you’ve completed these steps, click Create, and Visual Studio will generate a new ASP.NET Core Web API 6 project for you. This project will serve as the foundation for working with the minimal hosting model, which we’ll explore in the following sections. By simplifying the configuration, this new hosting model helps developers focus on writing code without getting bogged down by setup details, making it a valuable addition to ASP.NET Core 6.
