Google Nest Devices Experience Assistant Outage, Fix Deployed
Recently, owners of Google Nest and Nest Hub devices were left puzzled as their Google Assistant failed to respond to simple queries like “What’s the weather?” and “What time is it?” The issue, which had persisted for several days, saw frustrated users turning to Google’s support team with no immediate fix. Fortunately, Google has since addressed the problem and assured users that the fix has been implemented, meaning “all users should be up and running now.”
The issues reportedly began earlier this week, with many users noticing their devices—such as the Nest Mini, Nest Audio, Nest Hub, and Hub Max—becoming unresponsive to basic commands. A post on the Google Home subreddit described how the devices would flash their lights and loop without ever completing the request, even after performing a factory reset.
Interestingly, though the basic functions were failing, many Nest devices continued to respond to other commands, such as controlling smart home devices or playing music. However, queries about the weather or time remained unanswered.
Upon inquiry, Google confirmed it had deployed a fix but did not provide detailed information about the root cause, stating that it is still under investigation. It’s also worth noting that Google has started testing its Gemini AI model on some Nest devices, which could be affecting the way Assistant is interacting with users. The Gemini model has been handling more complex questions, while basic tasks are still managed by Google Assistant.
For those who weren’t affected by the issue, it seems that the Nest devices are back to their usual functionality. However, users who experienced the bug can now rest easy knowing the problem has been resolved.
