Windows 10 Users Hit by App Update and Uninstall Issue After WinAppSDK 1.6.2 Release

A troubling bug affecting Windows 10 users has surfaced after the release of the WinAppSDK 1.6.2 update on November 12. The issue prevents users from updating or uninstalling apps that rely on WinAppSDK, with affected apps including Microsoft Teams and numerous third-party applications.

Microsoft confirmed the bug, explaining that only apps using the WinAppSDK are impacted, and the problem is exclusive to Windows 10 22H2. If you attempt to update an affected app via the Microsoft Store, you’ll encounter the “Something happened on our end” error message. This issue doesn’t affect other versions of Windows 10 or Windows 11.

To address the problem, Microsoft has withdrawn the 1.6.2 update and is preparing a fix in the form of WinAppSDK 1.6.3. The update will be distributed through Windows Update and other methods within the next few days.

In the meantime, affected users with administrator rights can follow specific PowerShell instructions to resolve the issue manually. Keep an eye on Microsoft’s support page for further updates on the fix’s rollout.
