Microsoft’s renewed efforts to sway Windows 10 users towards Windows 11 are evident, with reports emerging from Windows Latest detailing the appearance of full-screen advertisements promoting Windows 11 to select Windows 10 users. This marketing tactic seems to coincide with the installation of optional updates from January 2024 onwards on Windows 10 devices.
The magnitude of Microsoft’s advertising blitz is striking, as users are confronted with full-screen adverts for Windows 11 that require interaction with multiple slides. According to sources, users must navigate through four slides to reject the Windows 11 upgrade, an experience corroborated by numerous users. Microsoft’s messaging on these slides emphasizes the benefits of Windows 11 while downplaying potential upgrade complications, such as hardware compatibility issues.
At the bottom right corner of the slider interface, users are presented with two options: decline the upgrade or initiate the Windows 11 download, with the latter option prominently highlighted. Microsoft seeks to entice users by offering a ten-day window to revert to Windows 10 post-upgrade, assuring that all files will be retained during the transition.
This aggressive promotional strategy underscores Microsoft’s push to boost Windows 11 adoption rates. According to Statcounter data, Windows 10 still commands a significant share of the market at 66.45 percent, with Windows 11 trailing behind at 27.82 percent.
This isn’t the first time Microsoft has employed such tactics; similar full-screen nag screens were rolled out in February 2023 and May 2023 to encourage Windows 10 users to migrate to Windows 11.
As the deadline of October 14, 2025, approaches, marking the end of support for Windows 10, Microsoft’s efforts to promote Windows 11 become increasingly urgent. Beyond this date, Windows 10 users will cease to receive updates unless they opt for paid Extended Security Updates, providing support until 2028.
