Windows 10 Users: Optional Update Addresses Persistent Login Issue

This week, Microsoft introduced an optional Windows 10 update that brings several improvements to the Start menu, along with a long-awaited fix for a login error that has been causing issues for users for months.

If you want to take advantage of this update, designated as KB5043133, you’ll need to apply it manually. Alternatively, you can opt to wait until it becomes available in October.

According to the official support page for the KB5043133 update, one of the notable changes is a visual alteration to the Start menu, which enhances its aesthetics. Users may find their profile pictures displayed in a new location, and the left pane now features a different background color to help it stand out more prominently.

The update also addresses a persistent login bug that has troubled users since March. Those affected, primarily individuals using Microsoft applications with company single sign-on (SSO), faced repeated sign-in prompts when trying to access Microsoft services. This bug was not only inconvenient but also time-consuming, making this fix a welcome relief after a prolonged wait.

A recent blog post indicates that additional updates for SSO users are on the horizon, aiming to simplify and enhance the sign-in experience further.

Moreover, the patch includes a few minor but significant fixes, such as resolving instances of Microsoft Edge freezing in Internet Explorer mode, addressing freezing issues in the Windows server when utilizing File Explorer or the taskbar, and correcting synchronization failures of Work Folder files when Defender for Endpoint is active.

    How to Install This Update

The KB5043133 update is currently available for users on Windows 10 version 22H2 and requires manual installation. To install it, go to Settings, select Windows Update, and check for new updates. You should find the optional update code KB5043133 listed; simply click on Download and Install, and then restart your PC to apply the update.

If you choose not to install this optional update, all of the fixes will still be applied during the October Patch Day release.
