Following the installation of the annual 2024 update, many Windows 11 users are facing a slew of problems, such as internet connectivity issues and malfunctioning features. The situation has escalated to the point where Microsoft is blocking the update for certain users. If you’re struggling with the Windows 11 24H2 experience, you can opt to uninstall the update and reset your system.
Caution:
While data loss is uncommon during this process, it’s wise to back up your essential files to an external drive. This precaution will ensure your important data is safe, even if unexpected issues arise.
Steps to Revert or Reset Windows 11
- Access Settings: Press the Windows key + I to open the Settings menu.
- Find Recovery Options: In the left sidebar, select System, then scroll down to Recovery.
- Uninstall the Update:
- At the bottom of the Recovery options, locate and click on Go back. This option allows you to uninstall the most recent Windows 11 update, reverting to the previous version while keeping installed apps intact, except those added after the 24H2 update.
- If you cannot select the Go back option because it’s grayed out, you may need to choose Reset PC instead, but be aware that this may result in losing some applications.
- Proceed Through the Prompts:
- Initiate the reversion process. When you reach the Feedback stage, click Next.
- At the Check for updates stage, select No thanks.
- On the What you should know screen, click Next.
- At the Keep your old password prompt, continue by clicking Next.
- Finalize the Reversion:
- Click on Revert to a previous build. Windows 11 will commence the reversion process, and shortly thereafter, the prior version of the operating system will be restored.
- Restart Your Computer: After the process is complete, restart your PC and log in to Windows 11. Everything should function correctly. When Microsoft resolves the issues associated with the Windows 11 24H2 update, you can choose to try updating again.
