EA to Retire Origin in Favor of the EA App by April 2025
EA has announced the end of Origin, its long-standing game launcher, effective April 17, 2025. Origin has been central to EA’s PC gaming strategy for years, but the company is now fully transitioning to the EA app, which debuted in 2020 as a faster and more modern alternative.
To continue accessing your games and save data, you’ll need to download the EA app and log in with your existing Origin account. The app will automatically detect your library and any installed games on your PC. While cloud save data for most games will transfer automatically, some titles and mods may require manual intervention.
It’s worth noting that the EA app is designed for 64-bit systems, rendering it incompatible with older 32-bit PCs. Players using outdated hardware may need to upgrade their systems to avoid losing access to their EA game collection.
For gamers seeking an alternative, many EA titles, including recent releases like Dragon Age: The Veilguard, are now available on Steam. Moreover, linking your Origin account to Steam allows you to launch purchased games through the Steam interface, offering additional flexibility for players hesitant to rely solely on the EA app.
