OpenAI announced yesterday on X/Twitter that a new feature has begun rolling out for the web version of ChatGPT, allowing users to search through their previous conversations with the AI chatbot.
For some time now, users have been able to view their conversation history, organized by date, in the left navigation panel, with categories such as Today, Yesterday, Previous 7 days, and Previous 30 days. This update enhances the experience by introducing a dedicated search function.
The newly implemented search button, located at the top-left corner of the ChatGPT interface, opens a pop-up modal where users can either start a new chat or search through their past interactions. This feature can be invaluable for quickly referencing earlier messages or resuming a conversation that was previously ongoing.
The rollout of the search feature has already begun for ChatGPT Plus and Team subscribers, with Enterprise and Edu users gaining access in the coming week. Free users, however, will have to wait around a month before they can utilize this new capability.
