Windows 11 gains ‘Describe Image’ AI feature for Copilot+ PCs, starting with Snapdragon
Microsoft is rolling out yet another AI-powered tool as part of its Copilot+ PC initiative. In its latest Windows Insider blog update, the company introduced “Describe Image,” a new feature that’s now available to Dev Channel users testing Windows 11 on Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ devices.
Integrated into the “Click to Do” menu, Describe Image lets users generate detailed descriptions of images, charts, and graphs using local AI models—helpful for those who need quick summaries of visual content or accessibility-friendly image overviews. Whether it’s a data-heavy graph or a complex illustration, this feature aims to provide meaningful, readable summaries in seconds.
Microsoft says the AI models are downloaded and configured the first time Describe Image is used, after which everything runs directly on the device. Importantly, all image processing and description generation occurs locally—nothing is sent to the cloud. This privacy-first design ensures that sensitive content, like confidential business charts or personal photos, never leaves the user’s computer.
Currently, the rollout is limited to Windows Insiders with Snapdragon-based Copilot+ PCs, but Microsoft confirmed that support for AMD and Intel Copilot+ systems is on the horizon.
The Describe Image tool is the latest in a series of AI enhancements aimed at making Windows more intelligent and more helpful, especially for users juggling dense visual content or working in fast-paced environments where time and clarity are critical.
