Thunderbird to Offer Custom @Thundermail.com Email Service and More Through New Premium Plan
Mozilla’s popular open-source email client, Thunderbird, is expanding its functionality by introducing a new feature that lets users create personalized @thundermail.com email addresses. This new service will be available through the upcoming Thunderbird Pro subscription, which promises to include more than just email capabilities.
Alongside email services, the Thunderbird Pro subscription will provide premium tools such as an appointment scheduler, file-sharing tools, and AI-driven assistance with Thunderbird Assist. The goal is to deliver a feature-rich experience that goes beyond traditional email functionality, targeting users looking for more integrated solutions.
Though the Thundermail service is still in the development phase, the full details, including pricing and launch date, remain uncertain. What is known is that Thunderbird Pro will be available in both free and paid tiers, offering a range of features for all types of users.
Thunderbird’s managing director, Ryan Sipes, revealed that the goal is to create a 100% open-source and privacy-respecting alternative ecosystem to services like Gmail. Reflecting on the delay in bringing these features to Thunderbird, Sipes remarked, “It is my conviction that all of this should have been a part of the Thunderbird universe a decade ago. But it is better late than never,” signaling a new phase for the open-source email client.
