AMD’s Radeon RX 9060 XT Delivers Better Value Than Nvidia’s RTX 5060 Ti

If you’ve been following hardware discussions, you’ve likely heard the joke that AMD’s Radeon cards usually come in priced about $50 less than Nvidia’s equivalent. Well, AMD shook things up today with its latest announcement targeting mainstream gamers, where price really counts.

At Computex 2025, AMD unveiled the Radeon RX 9060 XT and set the price for its 16GB model at $349. This undercuts Nvidia’s popular 8GB RTX 5060 Ti by $30 and offers a massive $80 discount compared to Nvidia’s 16GB RTX 5060 Ti. That’s a significant move that could sway many buyers who want better value without sacrificing performance.

The RX 9060 XT comes in two versions, with 8GB and 16GB of VRAM. The GPU has 32 RDNA 4 Compute Units, which is half of what the more expensive RX 9070 series offers. AMD clearly wants to emphasize that 16GB of memory matters in 2025, especially for gamers playing at higher resolutions.

According to AMD’s own tests, the 16GB RX 9060 XT is about 6% faster than Nvidia’s 8GB RTX 5060 Ti across a broad selection of 40 games at 1440p resolution—a setting that benefits from more VRAM. In some titles, AMD’s card was up to 30% faster. The company didn’t share comparisons against Nvidia’s 16GB RTX 5060 Ti, but those would likely show a smaller performance gap.

In ray tracing games, where Nvidia usually leads, AMD’s RX 9060 XT with 16GB VRAM showed strong results, beating Nvidia’s 8GB 5060 Ti by as much as 62% in some scenarios. However, in demanding ray tracing titles like Cyberpunk 2077 and Black Myth Wukong, AMD’s new RDNA 4 still falls behind Nvidia’s top solutions.

To help close this gap, AMD introduced “FSR Redstone,” a new AI-driven upscaling and performance feature designed to improve visuals and frame rates, particularly in ray tracing and AI workloads. FSR Redstone is expected to launch in the second half of 2025, potentially challenging Nvidia’s DLSS 4 tech.

Another update is that FSR 4 with frame generation will be supported in 40 games starting June 5, coinciding with the RX 9060 series release.

AMD also announced the 8GB RX 9060 XT at $299. While 8GB is generally seen as insufficient for modern games, it could still be suitable for esports titles or gamers willing to lower settings for smooth performance. However, AMD has not yet provided press samples of the 8GB model, so consumers should wait for independent reviews before buying.

Overall, AMD’s new RX 9060 XT lineup brings strong performance and aggressive pricing to the mainstream GPU market, reinforcing that 16GB VRAM is becoming essential in 2025. With new AI-powered features coming soon, AMD looks poised to offer real competition to Nvidia’s mid-range cards.
