Microsoft has quietly removed several Windows Learning Center articles that recommended 32GB of RAM as the ideal amount of memory for Windows 11 gaming PCs, signaling a shift in its public messaging as RAM prices remain historically high.
The deleted pages, first spotted by Windows Latest, previously advised that while 16GB was sufficient for most gamers, 32GB offered the best long-term experience. Those recommendations have now disappeared from Microsoft’s website without explanation.
Support Pages Quietly Removed
One of the deleted articles, “How to optimize your gaming PC setup,” was originally published in the Windows Learning Center on November 28, 2025. The page now redirects visitors to the Learning Center homepage.
Earlier this year, Microsoft also removed another guide that described:
- 16GB as the baseline for gaming
- 32GB as the “no worries” upgrade for Windows 11 users
Both documents consistently positioned 32GB as the preferred memory configuration for high-performance gaming and future-proof systems.
High RAM Prices May Be Influencing the Message
The removals come amid an unprecedented rise in memory prices caused by the ongoing AI infrastructure boom.
With AI companies purchasing massive quantities of DRAM for data centers and accelerators, consumer memory prices have surged. As a result:
- 32GB DDR4 kits now often exceed $250
- 32GB DDR5 kits can cost more than $400
Against that backdrop, publicly recommending 32GB as the ideal configuration may have become difficult to justify for mainstream consumers.
Windows 11’s Memory Requirements Haven’t Changed

Microsoft Wants Windows to Run Better on 8GB PCs
Instead of recommending more RAM, Microsoft has recently shifted its focus toward improving Windows 11’s efficiency.

- Improve responsiveness on PCs with 8GB RAM and above

Reports have also pointed to an internal optimization effort, reportedly known as “Windows K2,” aimed at improving performance on lower-memory systems.
Windows 10 Still Uses Less Memory
Despite Microsoft’s optimization plans, Windows 10 generally remains less demanding than Windows 11 on systems with limited RAM.
That lower memory usage is one reason many users have continued to postpone upgrading, particularly as rising RAM prices make hardware upgrades significantly more expensive than they were just a few years ago.
While Microsoft appears committed to making Windows 11 more efficient, users seeking the best long-term experience will still benefit from 16GB or more of RAM, with 32GB remaining the ideal choice for enthusiasts and power users whenever pricing becomes more affordable.
