Is your computer running slow? Just download more RAM! (If you’re young enough not to have Googled “lower back pain,” you might not be familiar with this classic internet humor.) In a similar twist, Logitech is enhancing some of its high-end gaming mice in real life by boosting sensor DPI through an upcoming software update. How neat is that?
Logitech has announced that every mouse in its G series featuring the Hero 2 sensor will be upgraded to its maximum resolution—an astounding 44,000 DPI (dots per inch)—thanks to a software update slated for October.
This announcement was made during Logitech’s Logi Play conference, as reported by PC Gamer. Currently, only three mice are equipped with the Hero 2 sensor: the Pro X Superlight 2, the recently announced Pro X Superlight 2 Dex (which offers an 8K polling rate and a grippier design), and the older ambidextrous Pro 2 Lightspeed. (Come on, Logitech—your mouse names could definitely use some improvement!)
While the Hero 2 sensors in the older Pro 2 Lightspeed and Pro X Superlight 2 are technically the same as in the Pro X Superlight 2 Dex, they initially run at a lower 32,000 DPI. This means that the new Pro X Superlight 2 Dex and its predecessors will provide the highest DPI available among gaming mice. For reference, Razer’s flagship Viper V3 Pro mouse has a maximum DPI of “only” 35,000.
That might seem like excessive power to me, especially since I rarely adjust my mouse settings above 1,200 DPI, even during gaming sessions. But I guess I’m not exactly a 360 noscope expert! The updates will be delivered via Logitech’s all-encompassing G driver system, so be sure to look out for it. Moving forward, expect most of Logitech’s gaming mice priced over $100 to come with the Hero 2 sensor by default.
