Microsoft is adding a shortcut for users without a Copilot key

Microsoft Introduces Alt + Space Shortcut for Copilot Voice Control

Windows users who don’t have a dedicated Copilot key but still want quick access to Microsoft’s AI assistant are about to get a new keyboard shortcut.

While some newer PCs include a Copilot key, allowing instant access to Microsoft’s AI, many users have either remapped it or simply ignored it. Meanwhile, others wish they had a way to activate Copilot without needing a new laptop. To address this, Microsoft is rolling out a new shortcut that enables voice interaction with Copilot.

The new functionality allows users to press and hold Alt + Space for 2 seconds to start a voice conversation with Copilot. Once activated, the assistant will listen for input, and users can press Esc to exit the conversation. If no response is given within a few seconds, the session will automatically close.

This feature is currently available for Windows Insiders in all testing channels, though Microsoft has not provided a release date for all users. It arrives as part of a broader push to enhance the Copilot experience, which recently underwent a major overhaul. Microsoft has rebuilt the Copilot app from the ground up, improving its performance, responsiveness, and deeper Windows integration.

If you’ve previously found Copilot lacking, this update—and the convenience of a universal keyboard shortcut—might make it worth trying again.
