Clipchamp Update Brings Light Mode, Better Timeline Controls & More
Microsoft’s Clipchamp video editor, which became a built-in tool for Windows 11 in 2022, is getting a major feature-packed update aimed at making video editing even smoother and more efficient. While Clipchamp is available as a free tool, it’s also part of Microsoft 365, giving subscribers access to premium features. In 2023, Microsoft introduced AI-powered tools to Clipchamp, and now, the latest update brings better customization, improved asset management, and more precise timeline editing.
Announced earlier this week in a Microsoft blog post, the new version of Clipchamp is rolling out with several key enhancements:
What’s New in Clipchamp?
✅ Light Mode & UI Customization – Until now, Clipchamp was only available in dark mode, but with this update, users can switch between light, dark, or system mode, adapting to their preferred workflow.
✅ More Organized Asset Management – Users can now group multiple elements (such as text, images, and music) into one unit on the timeline. This declutters projects and makes editing faster and more efficient. A thumbnail preview also helps keep track of grouped elements.
✅ Refreshed Video Editor Interface – Microsoft has introduced several UI changes to make Clipchamp more accessible and user-friendly. New features include collapsible sidebars, adjustable aspect ratios, full-screen preview options, zooming controls, undo/redo functionality, and AI-generated subtitles.
✅ Improved Timeline Editing Precision – A long-requested feature, timestamp visibility, is now available. Users can see timestamps by hovering over the timeline or when cutting a clip, allowing for more precise edits.
📌 Availability: The update is rolling out gradually to users with Personal accounts, while those using Work accounts will receive it in March 2025.
This latest update further cements Clipchamp’s role as a powerful built-in Windows editor, catering to both casual creators and more serious video editors.
