Seeking to fortify your data privacy with minimal effort? Look no further. Whether you’re keen on thwarting ad tracking or curtailing data sharing with Microsoft, we’ve streamlined the process with five essential adjustments.
Navigate to these settings in Windows 10 or 11 and flip the switches to enhance your privacy. In Windows 11, access these toggles by clicking the Windows icon, selecting Settings (the gear icon), and choosing Privacy and Security. Beneath “Change Privacy Options,” you’ll encounter:
- Allow apps to display personalized advertising using my advertising ID.
- Allow websites to access their own language list to enable the display of locally relevant content.
- Let Windows improve startup and search results by tracking app launches.
- Show suggested content in the Settings app.
While Windows 10 labels its settings page as Privacy, the adjustments remain consistent. Ensure each switch is set to “Off” to maximize data protection, as recommended by Microsoft.
For the fifth adjustment, head to Settings, Privacy and Security, Diagnostics and Feedback, and disable “Send Optional Diagnostic Data.” Although the route may differ slightly in Windows 10, the overarching objective remains unchanged.
