Tesla is recalling nearly 200,000 U.S. vehicles due to a backup camera glitch affecting certain 2023 Models Y, S, and X with “Full Self-Driving” computer 4.0 and software versions 2023.44.30 through 2023.44.30.6 or 2023.44.100. The glitch may prevent the camera image from displaying while in reverse, increasing the risk of a crash. Despite no reported crashes or injuries, Tesla initiated the recall on January 12 after receiving complaints since late December. The issue has been resolved with an online software update. Owners will receive notifications by letter starting March 22, and as of January 22, Tesla had 81 warranty claims related to the problem.
Teslas cannot drive themselves despite having a “Full Self-Driving” system, and human drivers have to be ready to intervene at all times.
