Microsoft has just released the optional KB5041587 update for Windows 11, which includes a variety of improvements that are particularly beneficial for users with AMD’s latest CPUs. Although this update is optional, it’s worth installing alongside your routine updates to take advantage of the new features.
The update, which upgrades Windows 11 to Build 22631.4112, is available for Windows 11 Enterprise and Education versions 22H2 and the 23H2 release. Key highlights include the addition of Windows Share functionality, allowing users to send files directly to a paired Android phone through the Phone Link app—no proximity required.
Narrator has been upgraded to offer faster and more accurate scanning of documents and websites, improving the experience for users, especially when browsing large documents or using Edge. Voice typing has also been refined, now supporting quicker character spelling and more text commands.
Several bugs in File Explorer have been addressed, including issues with keyboard shortcuts and Screen Reader focus. Most notably, AMD CPU users will benefit from up to a 13 percent performance boost for Ryzen 5000, 7000, and 9000 series processors.
To install this update, go to Settings > Windows Update and manually select KB5041587, as it will not be installed automatically like the August 2024 security update.
