Urgent Recall Alert: Airbag Defect Prompts Toyota and Lexus to Recall 1 Million Vehicles

Toyota Motor Co. It said on Wednesday it would recall one million vehicles because of a defect that could cause airbags to fail to deploy, increasing the risk of injury.

The recall covers a number of Toyota and Lexus vehicles with model years between 2020 and 2022. The recall includes Toyota Avalons, Camrys, Highlanders, RAV4s, Siennas and Corollas, as well as some hybrids of those models.

The recalled Lexus models include the ES250 sedan and RX350 SUV.

The recalled vehicles have sensors in the front passenger seat that may have been manufactured incorrectly. These sensors could potentially short circuit, causing the airbag system to fail to detect the correct weight of the passenger and fail to deploy in the event of a collision.

Toyota and Lexus dealers will inspect OCS sensors and replace them if necessary, at no cost to owners. Toyota will notify customers by mid-February 2024 if its vehicles are recalled.
