In late August, Microsoft released Beta update KB5041881 to Windows Insiders, packed with several new features and improvements. While many of these were noted, one particularly useful addition slipped under the radar: the ability to pin apps to the taskbar directly from search results.
Previously, to pin an app from search results to the taskbar, users had to right-click and choose “Pin to taskbar.” With the latest update, you can now drag an app from the search results—whether accessed via the Start menu or search box—directly onto the taskbar. A “Link” tooltip will appear to confirm that pinning is enabled, simplifying the process considerably.
In addition to this new feature, the KB5041881 update brings several other enhancements, including a new “Sign out” button on the Start menu, the ability to disable enhanced mouse pointer precision, a new Gamepad keyboard layout for the on-screen keyboard, and various UX improvements to Desktop Spotlight.
