Logitech’s latest mechanical keyboard, the Alto Keys K98M, could be the model that changes the company’s reputation among enthusiasts. Known more for its productivity and gaming peripherals than its mechanical offerings, Logitech has often struggled to justify its high prices in this niche. But the K98M appears to deliver genuine enthusiast-grade features at a surprisingly competitive cost.
Visually, the keyboard makes a strong impression. Available in gray, white-and-gray, and a stylish lilac variant, the K98M combines elegant tones with a semi-transparent upper housing that reveals the gasket-mounted internals. Gasket mounting, a construction technique borrowed from high-end custom keyboards, uses soft materials to suspend the plate and PCB, reducing vibration and providing a subtle bounce with each keypress. It’s a feature that until recently was reserved for far pricier models.
The switches are another highlight. Logitech’s Marble Switches are new linear mechanisms designed for smooth travel, but what’s even more appealing is that they’re hot-swappable, allowing users to replace them with any Cherry MX-style switch without soldering. The keyboard also uses PBT keycaps, known for their durability and resistance to shine, and includes RGB backlighting that shines through cleanly. The 96% layout gives users nearly a full-size typing experience in a more compact frame, while Bluetooth and USB wireless connectivity make it easy to pair across multiple devices. The only missing piece is wired mode, something some power users may miss.
At $119.99, Logitech’s Alto Keys K98M feels like a breath of fresh air—a rare balance between mainstream polish and enthusiast appeal. With its premium materials, modern mounting design, and strong value proposition, this release could finally earn Logitech a place on the desks of mechanical keyboard fans who previously overlooked its offerings.
