Microsoft has started rolling out KB5074105, an optional preview update for Windows 11 that offers an early look at features scheduled for next month’s Patch Tuesday release. The highlight of the update is an improved version of Smart App Control (SAC), the built-in security system designed to block potentially harmful applications.
With this patch, users can now enable or disable SAC directly from Windows Settings at any time. Previously, turning the feature back on required a full Windows reinstallation, making the tool far less practical for everyday use. The change significantly lowers the barrier for users who want to experiment with SAC while retaining the option to restore it later.
KB5074105 also bundles several fixes and enhancements. These include support for Cross-Device Resume, allowing certain Android apps to continue on a Windows PC, refinements to Start Menu behavior, a fix for the missing password icon on the login screen, and patches for system crashes that have affected some users.
To install the update, users must manually navigate to Settings, open Windows Update, and select KB5074105 under the “Optional updates available” section.
