The days of turning off your camera in a Zoom call may be numbered, as the company prepares to roll out photorealistic avatars for Zoom Workplace. Set to debut in December, the avatars will mirror a user’s movements and expressions, effectively serving as a digital twin that keeps them “present” even if they’d rather not appear on camera. Zoom pitched the feature at its Zoomtopia conference as part of its ongoing effort to make virtual collaboration more natural. Zoom is also joining competitors in adding live voice translation. Unlike Microsoft and Google, which have tested the feature in just a…
Known for its gaming PCs and hardware, MSI is entering new territory with the launch of its “EV Life” home charging lineup for electric vehicles. The company has introduced eight Level 2 chargers in total, split across the EV Life and EV Life Plus families, priced from $449.99 to $599.99. All models support both SAE J1772 and NACS connectors, making them compatible with most existing EVs as well as upcoming vehicles like the 2026 Nissan Leaf that will adopt NACS charging. MSI’s standard EV Life models use Bluetooth and a mobile app to handle charging data, while the EV Life…
Nearly 500,000 Anker power banks are being recalled following a U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) investigation that uncovered more than thirty incidents of fires and explosions linked to the devices. The recall covers models A1647, A1652, A1257, A1681, and A1689, with the model numbers visible both online and on the devices themselves. Around 481,000 units sold previously are affected. Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the affected power banks and visit Anker’s recall page to confirm their serial numbers and register for the recall. Some of these models were also part of Anker’s voluntary recalls in June and…
A new video playback problem has surfaced for Windows 11 24H2 users who installed August’s optional update KB5064081. While the update introduced new features and resolved previous audio bugs, it now appears to interfere with playback of DRM-protected content on Digital TV apps, Blu-ray, and DVD software that use the Enhanced Video Renderer. Users may encounter black screens, playback freezes, or copyright protection error messages when attempting to watch movies stored locally on their PCs. Microsoft emphasizes that this issue affects only protected media played via legacy components, and streaming services remain unaffected. Microsoft is actively investigating the problem and…
Intel and Nvidia’s ambitious collaboration on integrated CPUs and GPUs promises to redefine laptop graphics—but the timeline remains unclear, with industry insiders predicting the first products may not arrive for several years. Nvidia’s $5 billion investment into Intel last week formalized the partnership, which will see Intel providing CPU cores for Nvidia’s data center ambitions, while in PCs the companies aim to combine Intel processors with Nvidia RTX chiplets, potentially creating a new class of high-performance mobile SoCs. On a recent conference call, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang described the effort as a fusion of CPU and GPU dies through NVLink,…
Qualcomm is redefining its roadmap with an ambitious vision for the coming decade. At this year’s Snapdragon Summit in Maui—marking ten years of the event—chief executive Cristiano Amon unveiled what he called a “new phase of Snapdragon,” focused on embedding artificial intelligence into every layer of technology. The rallying cry was simple but sweeping: “AI everywhere.” Amon also confirmed that Qualcomm is on track to deliver 6G connectivity in 2028, framing it as a cornerstone of future AI-enabled devices and services. The announcement came alongside remarks from Google’s Rick Osterloh, senior director of devices and services, who hinted at broader…
The next generation of Windows PCs is being built around AI, and Microsoft has now delivered the runtime that could make it all click. This week, the company announced that Windows ML, its on-device machine learning framework, has finally graduated to full production status after years of testing. The timing aligns with the launch of AI-centric processors from Qualcomm, Intel, and AMD, each embedding NPUs capable of handling trillions of operations per second. The significance of Windows ML lies in its role as a bridge between hardware capabilities and real-world applications. Consumers may be fascinated by AI but have little…
Cybersecurity researchers are sounding the alarm after Cloudflare disclosed that it had mitigated the most powerful distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack ever recorded. According to BleepingComputer, the strike peaked at an astonishing 22.2 terabits per second (Tbps), nearly twice the size of the previous record of 11.5 Tbps set earlier this month. Cloudflare, which acts as a reverse proxy for roughly 19.8 percent of all websites worldwide, was able to absorb the deluge without widespread disruption, but the scale of the attack highlights how quickly adversaries are scaling up their offensive capabilities. Though brief—lasting only 40 seconds—the attack generated network activity…
Astronomers monitoring near-Earth objects have shifted their focus to the asteroid 2024 YR4, an Apollo-class body once thought to pose a risk to Earth itself. While updated trajectories now rule out a direct collision with our planet, a new threat has emerged: a potential impact with the moon. Current projections place the probability of a lunar strike at about 4 percent, with December 2032 identified as the earliest possible date of impact. Such an event could carry profound implications for Earth. A lunar collision would unleash enormous amounts of rock and dust, ejecting material into surrounding space. To observers on…
Google has issued a final security update for Chrome 140 ahead of the browser’s transition to Chrome 141 in early October. The patch, released as version 140.0.7339.207/208 for Windows and macOS and 140.0.7339.207 for Linux, resolves three vulnerabilities in the V8 JavaScript engine. According to Google, attackers have not exploited these flaws in the wild, but they carried a “high risk” rating. Among them, CVE-2025-10890 is a side-channel information leak, while CVE-2025-10891 and CVE-2025-10892 are integer overflow issues. Notably, the latter two were uncovered by Google’s own automated detection system, “Big Sleep,” an AI tool built on Gemini that can…
