Microsoft Store Will Soon Auto-Update Third-Party Apps
Microsoft is working on a new update for the Microsoft Store that will allow users to automatically update third-party apps that are not hosted on its own servers. As reported by Windows Central, these third-party apps will be labeled with a “provided and updated by” tag, indicating they are managed by their respective developers or publishers. They will also appear in the “Get updates” section of the Store, just like apps hosted on Microsoft’s servers.
This is a notable change because, until now, only Microsoft’s apps have been updated through the Store. However, this new feature only applies to third-party apps that are available in the Microsoft Store but are configured to fetch updates from external sources. Apps downloaded from outside the Store, such as those from product pages or GitHub, will not be affected by this update process.
Currently, this feature is being tested with Windows Insiders, and Microsoft has not yet revealed when it will be made available to the general public.
