Support for Office 365 on Windows 10 Ends This October

Microsoft Set to End Support for Office 365 on Windows 10 in 2025, Pushing Users to Windows 11

Microsoft is making it clear: it wants Windows 10 users to switch to Windows 11, and it’s pulling out all the stops to make that happen. According to a new support page, Microsoft 365 apps will no longer be supported on Windows 10 after October 14, 2025, the same day that Windows 10 itself reaches end of support. While installed Office 365 apps won’t cease functioning immediately, users will start seeing performance and reliability issues over time.

The company is making a strong case for why you should upgrade, with Microsoft emphasizing that continued use of the cloud-enhanced Office 365 apps on Windows 10 could lead to compatibility issues. Microsoft is also making it clear that users of the standalone version of Microsoft Office won’t be affected in the same way, as those versions will continue to work on Windows 10. However, the company warns that without support, performance and security might degrade.

This move is in line with Microsoft’s Modern Lifecycle Policy, which requires keeping up with the latest versions of their software. Similar announcements have been made in the past for older operating systems like Windows 7 and Windows 8, but the company’s current goal seems to be pushing as many users as possible to adopt Windows 11.

Even though Windows 10 is still functioning well for many users, Microsoft is determined to accelerate the adoption of Windows 11 with this latest announcement, especially as Office 365 apps are heavily integrated into business and consumer workflows. However, with Windows 11 adoption still lagging, Microsoft’s strategy of nagging users to upgrade could end up causing frustration, particularly in the corporate world, where many companies are still hesitant to make the jump.

With the future of Windows in a somewhat precarious position, Microsoft might find itself regretting its heavy-handed tactics by 2025, particularly if they fail to win over customers with Windows 11.
