Windows 11 KB5050009 Update Brings Audio and Hardware Issues
On January 15, Microsoft released KB5050009, the first update of the year for Windows 11. However, rather than addressing known issues in the 24H2 version of Windows 11, this update has introduced a number of new bugs, frustrating users.
Audio and Bluetooth Problems
One of the most significant issues after installing KB5050009 is audio failure. Many users have reported that USB DAC ports no longer work, preventing headphones from being recognized. Even switching to Bluetooth headphones doesn’t resolve the issue, as users can connect the headphones, but no sound is emitted. This problem appears widespread across various systems, with no manufacturer being identified as the source.
The audio issue follows a previous problem with Windows 11’s audio output in December, which led to Microsoft blocking the 24H2 update for affected devices. However, no such block has been put in place for KB5050009, meaning the problem remains unresolved.
Additional Issues
Other issues tied to this update include:
- Webcam recognition failure: Integrated webcams, especially on Dell monitors, are not being detected by some PCs.
- Installation failures: Some users are encountering installation errors or being stuck in endless restart loops.
- Game-related crashes: The Alt + Tab keyboard shortcut causes crashes in some games.
- Task Manager and keyboard issues: The Ctrl + Alt + Delete shortcut and Task Manager are failing to work properly.
- Smart App Control glitches: Smart App Control is incorrectly blocking apps, including Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL).
At present, there are no official solutions for these problems. The recommended workaround is to uninstall KB5050009 and temporarily pause automatic updates to avoid further complications.
With Microsoft promoting the free upgrade to Windows 11 24H2 for Windows 10 users, the issues stemming from this patch come at a particularly inconvenient time.
