Microsoft Blocks Windows 11 24H2 on PCs Running AutoCAD 2022
Microsoft’s Windows 11 24H2 update has encountered yet another compatibility roadblock, this time due to Autodesk AutoCAD 2022. The company has confirmed that users running this version of AutoCAD may experience boot failures, leading Microsoft to prevent automatic upgrades for affected systems.
Why AutoCAD 2022 Triggers an Upgrade Block
Users running AutoCAD 2022 on Windows 11 24H2 may encounter serious stability problems, including the potential for boot-related failures. To prevent widespread issues, Microsoft has implemented a temporary safeguard, ensuring that the update is not automatically installed on systems with AutoCAD 2022 installed.
Notably, this problem does not affect other versions of AutoCAD, meaning users running AutoCAD 2023 or later should be able to upgrade to Windows 11 24H2 without difficulty.
Temporary Blocks Are Nothing New
Microsoft has a history of blocking Windows updates when compatibility concerns arise. Windows 11 24H2 has already been restricted for users with certain hardware incompatibilities and for systems using Auto HDR, among other issues. Past upgrade blocks have also included problems with USB devices, printers, and scanners, with restrictions lifted once fixes were deployed.
Manual Installation Possible—But Not Recommended
Although the automatic update is blocked, manual installation remains an option. However, Microsoft strongly advises against upgrading until a fix is available, as doing so could lead to system instability and boot failures.
Microsoft is currently working on a resolution and will provide an update when a fix is ready. If you’re an AutoCAD 2022 user, it’s best to wait before upgrading to Windows 11 24H2.
